
Aggies and Commodores set for Nashville Showdown

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 7 Texas A&M men's tennis team is set to face No. 49 Vanderbilt (11-8, 2-2) at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center in Nashville, Tennessee at 5 p.m. (CT) Friday evening. The Aggies (18-4, 5-1) look to keep the pressure on No. 11 Georgia (10-3, 4-0) atop the SEC standings.
The maroon and white visit the Music City with a trio of ranked singles players, led by No. 18 Arthur Rinderknech. The Paris, France native has been the highest ranked SEC singles player in each of the spring rankings. The right-hander leads A&M with a 21-8 record this season, including a team-high eight wins over ranked players.
Shane Vinsant moved to No. 45 in the latest ITA poll, the Keller native leads the Aggies with a 12-5 dual record, going 10-4 on court two and 2-0 on the top court. The senior is 7-3 in his last 10 matches and matches Rinderknech's eight wins over ranked opponents. Sophomore Jordi Arconada rounds out the Aggies ranked contingent at No. 90. The Buenos Aires native is third on the squad in wins this season at 18, with an 11-5 ledger in dual matches. The righty has seven wins in A&M's last 10 matches against two losses and one unfinished match.
In doubles action Rinderknech and senior Jackson Withrow lead the charge with a 12-4 record, going 8-4 on the top court and 4-0 on court two. The pair are an impressive 5-4 against ranked teams, pushing them into the Top-20 in this week's poll at No. 18. Rinderknech ranks No. 35 alongside Vinsant, despite the fact that the two have not featured since the calendar turned to 2016. Arconada partners with junior Max Lunkin to rank No. 90 this week, the pair are 9-3 this season, including a 6-2 mark in duals and a 1-1 mark against ranked pairs.
The Commodores counter with a pair of ranked players and one ranked doubles tandem. Sophomore Daniel Valent is ranked No. 67 this week, leading the Commodores with a 20-7 mark this season and a 9-4 mark in dual matches all on court one. Freshman Cameron Klinger is 92nd after storming out to an 11-4 mark this spring, including a 2-1 mark against ranked foes. Klinger and senior Rhys Johnson have been impressive at the top doubles line, going 12-3 this spring, and are ranked 33rd this week.
Texas A&M moved up two spots in the latest ITA Rankings after piling up four victories last weekend at the Mitchell Tennis Center. A&M bested Mississippi State, Tyler JC, Alabama and Rice in front of the maroon and white clad crowd.
The Aggies will return to the Mitchell Tennis Center to take face No. 3 TCU and Nicholls State Monday afternoon. The Aggies and Horned Frogs are set to face-off at 6 p.m. after facing the Cardinals at noon.
