Aggies Aim for Attendance Record against the Bulldogs Friday

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 10 Texas A&M men's tennis team is set to host No. 7 Georgia (12-3, 6-0) Friday at 6 p.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas. The Aggies (20-6, 5-2) look to cause some confusion at the top of the SEC standings as they share third place with No. 14 Arkansas (16-4, 5-2) behind the Bulldogs and No. 11 Florida (11-4, 6-1).
Aggie tennis has lined up a slew of promotions for the match against Georgia. Fans are encouraged to arrive early in order to meet and get their photo taken with Reveille beginning at 5:30 p.m. All students with a valid student ID are admitted free to tennis matches this season and the first 100 fans will receive a pair of Texas A&M Tennis socks. Additionally, the Panhellenic chapter with the highest attendance at Friday's match will win a pizza party.
The maroon and white return to action after picking up a trio of ranked wins in a tight 4-3 defeat to No. 2 TCU Monday evening. Junior Max Lunkin fell 12-10 in a third-set tiebreaker in the last match standing to Jerry Lopez. The Aggies claimed ranked wins by sophomore Arthur Rinderknech over No. 15 Alex Rybakov, senior Jackson Withrow over No. 103 Eduardo Nava and by Withrow / Aleksandre Bakshi over No. 67 Hudson Blake / Reese Stalder.
The Aggies will feature a trio of ranked singles players against the Bulldogs, led by No. 18 Arthur Rinderknech. The Paris, France native has been the highest ranked SEC singles player in each of the spring rankings. The right-hander leads A&M with a 22-9 record this season, including a team-high nine wins over ranked players.
Vinsant moved to No. 45 in the latest ITA poll, the Keller native has an impressive 13-6 dual record, going 11-4 on court two and 2-1 on the top court. The senior is 7-3 in his last 10 matches and has eight wins over ranked opponents this year. Sophomore Jordi Arconada rounds out A&M's ranked contingent at No. 90. The Buenos Aires native is third on the squad in wins this season at 18, with an 11-7 ledger in dual matches. The righty has six wins in A&M's last 10 matches, holding a 9-6 record on court three.
In doubles action, Rinderknech and Withrow lead the charge with a 12-5 record, going 8-5 on the top court and 4-0 on court two. The pair are an impressive 5-5 against ranked teams, pushing them into the Top-20 in this week's poll at No. 18. Rinderknech ranks No. 35 alongside Vinsant, despite the fact that the two have not featured since the calendar turned to 2016. Arconada partners with junior Lunkin to rank No. 90 this week, the pair are 9-3 this season, including a 6-2 mark in duals and a 1-1 mark against ranked pairs.
Georgia enters Friday's match with three ranked singles players and a pair of ranked doubles team. The ranked Bulldogs singles players are No. 34 Wayne Montgomery, No. 35 Austin Smith and No. 120 Walker Duncan and their ranked doubles teams are No. 5 Ben Wagland / Smith and No. 58 Paul Oosterbaan / Jan Zielinski.
Texas A&M wraps up the weekend taking on No. 59 South Carolina and Texas-Arlington Sunday at the Mitchell Tennis Center. The Aggies and Gamecocks are set to face off at 11 a.m. Sunday followed by a 4:30 p.m. match up against the Mavericks.
