No. 15 Texas A&M hosts No. 4 Alabama for three-game series
Apr 14, 2016 | Softball
COLLEGE STATION – No. 15 Texas A&M softball will host fourth-ranked Alabama for a three-game series beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex.
"Obviously we are disappointed in how we played against Tennessee," head coach Jo Evans said. "We definitely underachieved, and that is frustrating, but we have another series coming up. All we have to think about is how we are going to beat Alabama.
"Alabama has done such a good job of rallying around each other. They have had a couple of injuries and they have been even stronger since. They are a team that has great team chemistry and adversity has made them stronger."
The Aggies enter the weekend with a 31-9 (5-7 SEC) record and are looking to rebound after getting swept at No. 17 Tennessee over the weekend.
Freshman Keeli Milligan continues to lead the nation in stolen bases with 46, while hitting .395 at the top of the lineup. Sophomore Tori Vidales is hitting .407 with nine home runs and 40 RBI, while senior Cali Lanphear has eight home runs and a team-high 44 RBI. Sophomore Kristen Cuyos leads the Aggies with 11 home runs.
In the circle, freshman Samantha Show is 18-6 with a 3.45 ERA and 121 strikeouts. Show's 18 wins are the second most in the country and tops the SEC. Sophomore Trinity Harrington is 6-2 with a 3.10 ERA and senior Katie Marks is 7-0 with a 3.31 ERA.
Sophomore Ashley Walters currently leads the SEC in batting average (.528) and RBI (18) in conference games only. The catcher from Kerrville, Texas was named SEC Player of the Week following her performance against the Razorbacks, in which she hit 7-for-10 at the plate with 10 RBI. Against the Volunteers, Walters was 6-for-8 with a double and four RBI.
Alabama is currently 36-7 (8-4 SEC) on the season and is on a six-game winning streak. After winning the series at Florida, the Crimson Tide swept Mississippi State last weekend before topping Southern Miss, 7-1, Tuesday.
Haylie McCleney leads the offense, hitting .459 with two home runs and 18 RBI. Reagan Dykes is hitting .301 with a team-high nine home runs and 33 RBI.
Sydney Littlejohn is 16-2 in the circle with a 1.47 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 109.1 innings pitched. Alexis Osorio is 11-5 with a 2.37 ERA with 150 strikeouts in 103.1 innings.
All games can be seen on the SEC Network +, available through WatchESPN and the ESPN app and can be heard locally on KWBC 1550 AM or online at www.RadioAggieland.com.
