COLLEGE STATION – No. 10 Texas A&M softball hosts Stephen F. Austin at the Aggie Softball Complex on Wednesday with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m.
"Stephen F. Austin has a really good ball club and have played a tough schedule," head coach Jo Evans said. "Every time I turned around in preseason, they were playing a ranked team, and I love that about Coach (Gay) McNutt. She isn't afraid to play anybody in the country. They come here and play us and they play the game with a lot of passion and enthusiasm. It is fun to have an Aggie come back. We have a lot of respect for her and what she did here. It will be fun to have her come back."
The Aggies enter the contest with a 30-6 (5-4 SEC) record and are coming off a sweep against Arkansas. Freshman Keeli Milligan continues to lead the nation in stolen bases with 42, while hitting .392 at the top of the lineup. Sophomore Tori Vidales is hitting .406 with eight home runs and 35 RBI, while senior Cali Lanphear has eight home runs and a team-high 44 RBI. Sophomore Kristen Cuyos leads the Aggies with 11 home runs.
In the circle, freshman Samantha Show is 18-5 with a 3.26 ERA and 119 strikeouts. Show's 18 wins are the second most in the country and tops the SEC. Sophomore Trinity Harrington is 5-1 with a 2.28 ERA and senior Katie Marks is 7-0 with a 2.61 ERA.
Stephen F. Austin is currently 16-18 (6-5 SLC) on the season and is coming off a series win against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Brittany Lewis leads the offense, hitting .347 with six home runs and 33 RBI. Taylor Fraccastoro is batting .344 with four homers and 20 RBI. Lewis is 6-3 in the circle with a 3.31 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 72.0 innings pitched. Callee Guffey is 5-4 with a 2.82 ERA.
Stephen F. Austin is led by head coach Gay McNutt, who was a four-year starter behind the plate at Texas A&M, starring for the Aggies from 1982-1985. She was named to the all-region team each of those four years and earned All-American honors as a senior in 1985. McNutt, who served as team captain in each of her last two seasons at A&M, helped lead the Aggies to a pair of national championships.
Wednesday's tilt can be seen on SEC Network +, available through WatchESPN and the ESPN app and can be heard locally on KWBC 1550 AM or online at www.RadioAggieland.com.
