No. 17 Aggies close regular season at No. 6 Auburn
May 05, 2016 | Softball
COLLEGE STATION – The No. 17 Texas A&M softball team will close out the regular season with a three-game series at No. 6 Auburn, beginning Friday at Jane B. Moore Field.
"We need to take the momentum that we got from the win against Florida to Auburn," head coach Jo Evans said. "I thought we stayed together as a ball club. We understand that we are going to continue to play great teams. Our expectation is to get out there and sharpen up our defense and pitching and get some timely hits. We expect to go there and have success. I think it will make a difference for us going into postseason."
A&M (35-16, 7-14 SEC) is coming off its first victory over a No. 1-ranked team since 2008, when the Aggies defeated Florida, 6-4, on Sunday. The Maroon and White rallied in the sixth, scoring four runs on a pair of defensive miscues, before holding off a feverish Gator rally in the seventh.
At the top of the lineup, freshman Keeli Milligan is hitting .366 with her nation-leading 50 steals. Sophomore Kristen Cuyos shares a tie for the team lead in home runs with 14 and leads the Aggies with 53 RBI. Sophomore Tori Vidales paces the Aggie offense in batting average (.408), slugging (.775), OBP (.527), walks (36) and is tied for the lead in home runs.
In the circle, freshman Samantha Show is 21-9 with a 3.68 ERA and 150 strikeouts. Show's 21 wins are tied for second in the SEC. Sophomore Trinity Harrington is 7-6 with a 3.75 ERA and senior Katie Marks is 7-0 with a 3.93 ERA.
Auburn is currently 45-7 (15-5 SEC) on the season and is led by Kasey Cooper, who is hitting .442 on the year with a team-high 17 home runs and 70 RBI. Rachel Waters is 9-2 on the season with a 1.35 ERA, while Kaylee Carlson is 13-1 with a 1.93 ERA. Makayla Martin holds an 11-2 mark with a 1.88 ERA.
Friday's contest is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on the SEC Network +, while Saturday's game is slated for a 1 p.m. start on ESPN. Sunday's game will be broadcast on the SEC Network + as well as the SEC Network's Bases Loaded coverage. Each game is available through WatchESPN and the ESPN app. All three games can also be heard locally on KWBC 1550 AM or online at www.RadioAggieland.com.
