Jun 09, 2016 | Baseball
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 1 Texas A&M Aggies look to earn their sixth College World Series trip when they host the TCU Horned Frogs in a best-of-three Super Regional series on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
The Maroon and White are coming off one of their most prolific Regional performances, going 3-0 for the first time since the NCAA went to the four-team regional, 64-team tournament format in 1999. Texas A&M won the three games by a combined score of 34-6. The only other time the Aggies went undefeated in a Regional was 1993 (4-0) when they knifed up Yale, Lamar, UCLA and North Carolina by a combined tally of 48-12 to earn a CWS bid.
Texas A&M is on a seven-game win streak, including the four games they won to claim the SEC Tournament title in Hoover. Over the seven-game win streak, AUSTIN HOMAN is hitting .550 (11-for-20) with seven runs, four doubles and 10 RBI. MICHAEL BARASH is batting .462 (12-for-26) with 10 runs, four doubles and 10 RBI and JONATHAN MORONEY is hitting .444 (12-for-27), 11 runs, two home runs, 10 RBI over the span.
The Aggies have extended their school-record string of consecutive NCAA Championships to 10. Texas A&M is making its seventh appearance in an NCAA Super Regional, including making back-to-back appearances for the second time in school annals (2007 & '08). It marks just the second time the Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park complex will host an NCAA Super Regional with the first coming in 1999 when the Aggies topped Clemson in three games.
All three contests are slated to air on the ESPN family of networks with Tom Hart (play-by-play), Kyle Peterson (color) and Laura Rutledge (sideline) on the call. Friday will air on ESPN2, Saturday is scheduled for ESPN and Sunday's "if necessary" game would be broadcast on either ESPN2 or ESPNU. Every game of the College Station Super Regional can be seen via the WatchESPN app with credentials required through respective cable providers.
