Texas A&M women sweep SMU, gear up for LSU, Senior Day

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 7-ranked Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team swept SMU on Friday and will face SEC rival LSU on Senior Day at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Student Recreation Natatorium.
The Aggies improved to 6-1 in dual meet action with a 173-109 win over the Mustangs while sweeping all 16 events. The Aggies return to the pool on Saturday for Senior Day against LSU when they honor eight seniors:

The Aggies opened and closed the meet with relay wins. The foursome of junior Béryl Gastaldello, junior Jorie Caneta, senior Sarah Gibson and sophomore Claire Rasmus opened the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley with a time of 3:39.53, and the group of redshirt freshman Raena Eldridge, freshman Sara Metszch, senior Sycerika McMahon and sophomore Lexie Lupton touched first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:33.97 to end the day.
Texas A&M received a pair of individual wins from five Aggies – McMahon in the 500 free (4:50.14) and 1,000 free (9:51.27), Gibson in the 100 butterfly (54.72) and 200 butterfly (1:59.98), Gastaldello in the 50 free (22.35) and 100 free (50.30), sophomore Sydney Pickrem in the 200 backstroke (1:58.41) and 400 IM (4:12.51) and senior Zoe Alaniz in the one-meter dive (281.70) and the three-meter dive (311.25).
Other Aggies tallying wins were freshman Katie Portz in the 200 free (1:48.99), junior Lisa Bratton in the 100 back (54.66), Caneta in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.73) and senior Ashley McGregor in the 200 breast (2:13.20).
