DALLAS, Texas – The No. 2 Texas A&M equestrian team rallied to defeat No. 5 SMU, 11-9, Saturday at the Dallas Equestrian Center.
"I am very proud of how the team closed out the day," head coach Tana McKay said. "We knew SMU was going to be tough, but the girls competed hard. We have another short week to get ready for another tough meet against South Carolina, but I am very proud of the team today."
The Aggies (6-2, 2-1 SEC) fell behind 4-1 after the meet's first event, Equitation over Fences. Junior Rachael Hake scored the lone point with a 90-85 victory over Nora Gray and was named MOP.
Sophomore Haley Franc recorded a 71-60 win against Jaclyn White to lead off Reining, before junior Madison Bohman tallied her team-high seventh win of the year, topping Casey Bibbs, 71-68.5. Senior Sarah Kate Grider edged out Holly Lansidel, 73-72, to close out the first half.
In Equitation on the Flat, senior Anna Rea was named MOP after notching an 80-78 victory over Nora Gray and junior Alex Desiderio defeated Sylvia de Toledo, 74-70.
Trailing by three heading into the final event, the Aggies swept Horsemanship, 5-0. The shutout is the squad's fourth of the season and third 5-0 sweep in the last four meets. Junior Bailey Cook started off with a 69.5-67.5 victory over Michaela Dinger, before junior Avery Ellis topped Hannah McCain, 75.5-68, to earn her second consecutive MOP honor.
