
Aggies travel to San Antonio for scored Invitational hosted by UTSA

SAN ANTONIO – Texas A&M's outdoor season continues with a visit to UTSA this weekend for the Roadrunners Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Other teams joining host UTSA in the scored meet include Akron, Baylor, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Virginia Commonwealth.
"We like going to San Antonio and competing at UTSA," said Texas A&M head coach Pat Henry. "We hope Aggies in that area will come watch our team.
"Then we will be in Austin the following week for the Texas Relays. We feel like that is a home meet for us. When you can't run at home, we're trying to run as close to home as we can. I hope a lot of people will come out and watch."
In preseason national rankings for the outdoor season the Aggie men are No. 4 and the women are No. 12. Admission to the Invitational is $5 on Saturday. Live results will be available online at www.sidearmstats.com/utsa/track/.
Friday's action at UTSA will begin at 1 p.m. for the Aggies with the women's weight throw, followed by the men's weight throw, then the shot put and javelin. Field events continue at 11 a.m. on Saturday with running events set to start at 2 p.m.
One week into the outdoor season Texas A&M has produced five collegiate leaders along with eight additional conference leading marks.
The collegiate leaders include Aaliyah Brown (11.26) in the 100m, Robert Grant (50.07) in the 400m hurdles, Audrey Malone (181-8) in the javelin along with the men's 4x100 (39.13) and 4x400 (3:05.72).
Conference leaders in the SEC also include Elijah Morrow (20.93) in the 200m, Briyahna Desrosiers (23.72) in the 200m, Alex Riba (3:47.32) in the 1,500m, women's 4x400 (3:38.86), Garrett Cragin (6-11) in the high jump, Carl Johansson (17-0 ¾) in the pole vault, Emily Gunderson (13-1 ½) in the pole vault, Jeff Bartlett (186-6) in the discus, and Alison Ondrusek (196-7) in the hammer.
Fred Kerley returns to racing in an individual event this weekend in addition to relay duty. Kerley will race in the 200m and 4x100 relay while his brother, Mylik, opens the outdoor season in the 4x400 relay. Grant, who won a close 400m hurdle race last year at UTSA in 50.21, will race in the 400m and both relays this week after opening with a 50.07 in the hurdles.
Brown and Brenessa Thompson, who went 1-2 in the 100m at Arizona State with times of 11.26 and 11.29, will move up to the 200m this weekend. They will be joined by teammates Diamond Spaulding and Danyel White in the final section of the 200m.
Ondrusek and Carissa van Beek are the top entrants in the women's hammer, while Austin Cook, who opened with a throw of 204-3, will face a challenge in the men's hammer from UTSA's Victor Perez, who opened with a 206-3 mark at home.
Ranked second among collegians early in the outdoor season with a discus mark of 186-6, Bartlett will be one of the top throwers in the field of 24 at UTSA. Akron's Phillip Jagers is the top seed in the event from a 205-9 performance in 2016.
Shelby Poncik, who ranks fourth among collegians with her 171-9 javelin throw, will headline a small field of seven throwers as she is joined by teammates Madalaine Stulce and Christine Brigman.
In the women's discus, Aggie newcomer Serena Brown currently ranks third among freshman with her 167-8 opener. She joins teammate Celine Markert in the shot put and discus as they challenge Baylor's Cion Hicks in both events.
Middle distance and distance runners will compete over distances of 800m, 1,500m, 3,000m along with a 2,000m steeplechase. Jazmine Fray and Katie Willard will compete at 1,500m along with five Aggie teammates.
