Jun 03, 2017 | Baseball
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies continue play in their 33rd NCAA Division I Baseball Championship Saturday as they battle the Iowa Hawkeyes in a Houston Regional winners bracket game at Schroeder Park.
The Aggies advanced to Saturday night's tilt with an 8-5 win over the Baylor Bears. The Maroon and White were paced by Nick Choruby's 4-for-5 day at the plate and Braden Shewmake's game-tying two-run dinger. Texas A&M did most of their damage in a five-run sixth inning that featured the aforementioned Shewmake home run and five Aggie walks. Brigham Hill battled through 5.1 innings to earn the win and Kaylor Chafin picked up his first career save as he allowed just one of the 11 batters he faced to reach base in his 3.2 innings.
Iowa is the hottest team at the Houston Regional. The Hawkeyes have won 9 of their last 11 including a 4-1 mark while capturing the Big Ten Tournament title. Last night Iowa posted a 6-3 victory over the host Houston Cougars.

Shewmake, a Collegiate Baseball All-America First Team honoree and the SEC Freshman of the Year, is hitting .344 (85-for-247) with 42 runs, 17 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs and 67 RBI. Shewmake ranks 15th in the nation in RBI (67) and 29th in the nation in hits (85). He leads all Division I freshmen in hits, total bases and RBI.
