Top-Ranked Aggie Golfers Set for Marquette Intercollegiate
Sep 30, 2017 | Men's Golf
HARTFORD, Wisc. – After ascending to the top spot in the Bushnell/Golfweek D-I Coaches Poll, the Texas A&M men's golf team is set to return to action at the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills which tees off on Sunday morning.
"I'm excited to get back out on the road with the guys," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "It's our second straight U.S. Open venue and I know Erin Hills will be an excellent challenge for us. The field is loaded with great teams and players and we will have to play outstanding golf to compete."
The event will feature 54 holes over three days on Erin Hills Golf Course outside of Milwaukee. The course, which hosted the 2017 U.S. Open, will be set up to play at par 72 and 7,722 yards.
Along with the top-ranked Aggies, the field also features 22nd-ranked Marquette and 24th-ranked Florida State. Augusta, Iowa State, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, South Florida, UC Davis, UCLA, UTEP and Wisconsin comprise the rest of the 15-team field.
The Aggies climbed to the top-spot in the Bushnell/Golfweek D-1 Coaches Poll on Sunday after posting victories in the season's first two events. In their first trip to Wisconsin in early September, the Aggies captured a victory in the Badger Invitational before winning the OFCC Fighting Illini Invite the following week.
All-American Chandler Phillips headlines the Aggie lineup in Wisconsin. The junior won his third career event earlier this season at the Badger Invite. Josh Gliege, who posted the Aggies' lowest score yet this season at the Illini Invite, makes the trip along with fellow sophomore Brandon Smith. Freshman Reese Ramsey and senior Andrew Paysse round out the Aggie lineup.
Senior Cameron Champ will miss the trip as the All-American prepares to compete in the PGA Tour's Safeway Open. Champ received a sponsor's exemption in his home state of California and will begin play on Thursday.
Tee time for the Aggies is set for 9:50 a.m. (CT) Sunday morning where they are paired alongside Marquette and Northwestern. Live scoring and results for the Aggies can be found on golfstat.com as well as live updates via twitter at @AggieMensGolf.
