COLLEGE STATION – The No. 2 Texas A&M equestrian team travels to No. 8 South Carolina for the first SEC meet of the season Friday at 12 p.m. at One Wood Farm in Blythewood, S.C.
"I am looking forward to seeing how the girls compete in an SEC meet as we know those are never easy," Aggie head coach Tana McKay said. "We had a great win last week and practiced really well leading up to the conference opener. South Carolina is always a good team and we know we have to perform at a high level."
The Aggies (2-0) are coming off a thrilling 9-8 victory at No. 6 TCU a week ago. Trailing 7-6 heading into the final event, Equitation on the Flat, the Aggies picked up three crucial points from Rebekah Chenelle, Rhian Murphy and Brianna Peddicord to seal the win.
On the season, Chenelle and Murphy lead the Flat squad with a 2-0 record while Chenelle and Grace Boston are 2-0 in Fences. Sarah Orsak powers the Horsemanship squad with two victories as Marissa Harrell and Shelby Reine are undefeated in Reining.
South Carolina enters the meet with a 1-2 (1-1 SEC) ledger and are coming off a 10-9 upset-win over then-No. 2 Georgia. The Gamecocks opened the season with a 9-8 loss to No. 6 SMU and an 18-2 loss at No. 1 Auburn.
The two teams met three times last year with the Aggies winning all three matchups, including a 12-6 triumph at One Wood Farm.
