COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 5 Texas A&M Aggies travel Tuscaloosa for a key SEC soccer match Thursday night against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The Aggies need three points to stay in striking distance of first-place Vanderbilt who leads the league with 19 points on a 6-0-1 SEC record. Texas A&M is in second place with 16 points (5-1-1), while Alabama enters play in desperate need of points, entering play in 13th place with four points on a 1-5-1 mark in league play.
Texas A&M leads the nation with 44 goals on the season, one of just six teams to score 40 or more goals in 2018. The nearest SEC team is Auburn with 38 goals. The Aggies have claimed 12 games by at least a two-goal margin. The only team in the nation with at least 10 wins by two or more goals, the next teams on the list are Memphis and Tennessee with nine wins apiece by two or more goals.
The Aggies have spent a majority of the 2018 campaign in an enviable position. Over the course of 1,460 minutes of play, Texas A&M has trailed for just 75:50 (5.2%). The Maroon & White have owned the lead for 853:15 (58.4%) and action has been tied for 530:55 (36.4%).

Alabama started the season with a 5-2-1 mark, but the Crimson Tide has fallen on hard times going 2-5-1 in their last eight matches. They are 1-5-1 in SEC play, with a 4-3 win against Kentucky and a 0-0 draw with Florida. Casey Wertz leads the Crimson Tide with 16 points on eight goals.
