Aggies Drop 1-0 Decision at Alabama
Oct 18, 2018 | Soccer
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The No. 5 Texas A&M Aggies yielded a 79th minute goal and dropped a 1-0 decision to the Alabama Crimson Tide on Thursday evening at Alabama Soccer Stadium.
The Maroon & White owned the advantage in shots, 21-9, and shots-on-goal, 8-6, but Alabama goalkeeper Alex Plavin made three saves of the spectacular variety to keep A&M off the board. In 27th minute, she made a diving punch on a low driving shot by Addie McCain. In the second half, Pavin made another diving stop, this time on a one-on-one opportunity by Ally Watt in the 69th minute and in the 77th minute, she made a self-preservation save on a short-corner shot by Kendall Ritchie from the left corner of the penalty box.
The loss dropped Texas A&M to 14-2-1 on the season and 5-2-1 in the SEC. Alabama improved to 8-7-2 overall and 2-5-1 in league play.
The Maroon & White entered play with a string of 31 consecutive matches without being shutout. The streak ends and goes in the Aggie record books as the third-longest string. It was the first time they were shutout since a 1-0 loss at Auburn on September 15, 2017.
The teams played to a 0-0 draw in the opening stanza. The Aggies owned an 8-6 advantage in shots, but shots-on-goal were even at 3-3 and Alabama held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

On the match…
"Alabama scored a great goal and defended valiantly tonight. As poorly as we played, we set up some golden opportunities to put the game away in the second half, but missed on those chances. That kept them in the match. We need to put this behind us and get better in the next few days before Sunday's finale."
