AGGIE NOTES:
WHAT THEY SAID
Texas A&M Head Coach Jo Evans
On Samantha Show getting nine strikeouts and getting key outs when she needed them…
"What she did differently today was she found a pitch to get an out, whether it was a strikeout or just to get an out. I think she did that better today than I've seen her do that in a while. Early on, she was behind hitters. She was a little out of sorts the first inning. I thought it was huge that we were able to get through the early innings when she was kind of trying to settle in and not give up any runs. I just love the way she showed maturity out there. She could've gotten flustered. She could've gotten careless and she didn't. She just kept getting better as the game went on. I was really happy to see that."
On confidence in batter's box…
"It just goes to show that they're seeing the ball well. They're well prepared. I think Coach [Keith] Stein is doing a great job having them prepared and understanding the pitchers we're going to face and they're trusting that and trusting themselves. So, I like what he's doing. He lets them play the game and he's just on top of it to help them if they need it. But, all the work is on the off days at practice and in the hitting groups. I think he's doing a nice job of that. I'm loving how the kids are responding."
On already winning the series 2-0…
"We're going to enjoy it. Getting out there and scoring those four runs late really made a difference for us and I really would've loved to see one more run and shut it down early, but you don't want to get too greedy. But, I just thought we were playing with confidence. We're taking care of the ball. We're making plays we're supposed to make. The catch by Erica Russell, to go from center field to right field and make that catch, was a special catch. I just like what I'm seeing right now. I think our kids are having fun playing the game."
