Mar 21, 2018 | Track and Field
Texas A&M travels to San Antonio this weekend for the UTSA Roadrunner Invitational and it's the first of four meets in which the Aggies compete in the state of Texas during the outdoor season this spring.
There will be free admission to the Roadrunner Invitational, which is held at the UTSA Park West Athletics Complex. Action begins Friday at 1 p.m. with throwing events – shot put and hammer – followed by the javelin at 5 p.m. On Saturday field events start at 11 a.m. with track events beginning at 2 p.m.
Teams scheduled to compete in the Roadrunner Invitational include Akron, Baylor, Kansas State, Kennesaw State, TCU, Texas State, Stephen F. Austin and UTSA.
Other meets in Texas that the Aggies will compete in this outdoor season include the Texas Relays (March 28-31) held in Austin, the Houston Alumni Invitational (April 7) and the Michael Johnson Invitational (April 21) hosted by Baylor.
In the preseason outdoor national team computer rankings released by USTFCCCA this week, Texas A&M men rank No. 2 and the Aggie women are No. 6. Among the top 25 rankings, there are nine men's teams and nine women's teams from the SEC.
This marks the eighth time over the past 10 years for the Aggie men to hold a top three position in the outdoor preseason rankings. On four occasions Texas A&M has been ranked No. 2, while they were ranked No. 1 three times and No. 3 once.
For the Aggie women, the No. 6 outdoor preseason ranking is just the fourth time over the past 10 years for the program not to be ranked among the top five.
