
Texas A&M Tops Cal Poly; Falls to No. 13 Arizona State at Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Texas A&M Softball defeated Cal Poly, 4-2, before falling to No. 13 Arizona State, 5-4, Friday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
Against the Mustangs, the Maroon & White scored four runs in the first three frames. Kelbi Fortenberry drove in two of Texas A&M's runs while Baylee Klingler, Taudrea Sinnie, Payton McBride and Dani Elder accounted for the Aggies' other four hits.
McBride earned the win after only allowing two walks and one earned run. The junior fanned two and gave up seven hits in 6.0 innings of work. Kendall Potts recorded the first save by the Aggies' bullpen this season as she threw one inning in relief without allowing a base runner and striking out one.
In the nightcap, Arizona State put up a three-spot in the top of the second. The Aggies cut into their lead with a run in the bottom half of the inning and before coming back to tie the game in the third on three hits and an error.
The Sun Devils regained the lead in the fourth as they went up, 5-3, but the Aggies didn't go down without a fight. In the bottom of the fifth, Texas A&M tacked on a run when a McBride RBI single allowed Lee to touch home.
Potts started in the circle for the Aggies, giving up five hits, five walks and five runs, while fanning three in three innings of work. McBride entered the game in the fourth and retired eight of the first nine batters she faced. The Deer Park, Texas, native threw the final four innings of the game, only allowing one hit and striking out three.
