Texas A&M Stays Close To Home For Icon Invitational
Feb 24, 2019 | Women's Golf
THE WOODLANDS – Texas A&M women's golf stays close to home for the Icon Invitational, hosted by Houston February 25-26 at The Woodlands Country Club, less than an hour and a half from College Station.
The 54-hole tournament takes place on the par 72 / 6,392-yard Tournament Course, which has hosted events on the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and Champions Tour. Last season, Texas A&M finished third in the rain-shortened event at 2-over par.
Three ranked teams highlight the 17-team field, including No. 9 Kent State, No. 18 Clemson and No. 20 TCU. In addition to the Aggies and host institution Houston, Baylor, Kansas State, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Purdue, SMU, Southern Miss, Texas State, Texas Tech and UTSA round out the field.
Last week, the Aggies had two of their top rounds of the season, with a 1-under first round and an even par third round at the Moon Golf Invitational, finishing 5-over par for the tournament.
The Aggie lineup remains the same from last week's event in Melbourne, Florida, with Amber Park, Brooke Tyree, Courtney Dow, Ava Schwienteck and Katie Finley returning to action. Park led the Aggies in the event, shooting an even-par 216, her third event of at least even par this season.
Tyree posted two rounds of 2-under 70 at the Duran Golf Club, and Finley had A&M's best round of the tournament, a second-round 3-under 69.
Dow, along with Park, co-lead the team with a 73.57 stroke average on the season. Schwienteck has a trio of par-or-better rounds this season, and is looking for her third top-20 finish of the year.
The tournament begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Monday, followed by 36 holes of play. A team and individual champion will be crowned after a final round of play on Tuesday.
Live scoring for the event is available on golfstat.com, and live updates are available on Twitter at @AggieWomensGolf.
