COLLEGE STATION -- The Texas A&M men's basketball team remains on the road to start the week, taking on No. 13 LSU Tuesday night. A&M has won four of its last five outings, including an 87-80 win at Arkansas on Saturday. SEC Player of the Week Savion Flagg has led the Aggies in scoring and rebounding in each of the last three games. The Tigers are coming off of an overtime win over No. 5 Tennessee on its home court, bouncing back from an overtime loss to Florida earlier in the week.
Texas A&M Quick Hits
• Savion Flagg was named SEC Player of the Week for the first time, capping off a strong week with a 22-point performance at Arkansas.
• Wendell Mitchell added 20 points in the win at Arkansas, his eighth 20-plus point game of the year.
• Mitchell has come into his own in SEC play, leading the Aggies with 15.4 ppg and 24 steals (1.7 spg).
• Flagg and Mitchell have combined to average 40.7 points over the last three games.
• Josh Nebo, the SEC's leader in blocked shots, had a perfect first half at Arkansas, scoring 11 of his 14 points after going 4-4 from the field and 3-3 from the free throw line.
• TJ Starks has given the Aggies a spark off the bench ... He added 11 points at Arkansas to reach double figures for the fourth time in the last five games.
• Four Aggies scored in double figures at Arkansas, helping the team shoot a team season best 58.3-perecent from the field.
• A&M's 87-80 win at Arkansas marked the first time it has earned a victory in Fayetteville since the 1986 season.
• The Aggies tallied 10 steals at Arkansas, reaching double figures in the category for the fifth time this season.
Series Info
• Tuesday's contest will be the 40th meeting between the Aggies and the Tigers on the hardwood and the 15th as members of the SEC. A&M looks to snap a three-game skid in the series, as LSU leads all-time 21-18.
• The series has been dominated by the home team — A&M holds a 10-4 record in College Station and the Tigers own a 15-2 mark in Baton Rouge.
• The series dates back to the 1916-17 season during the early days of each school's men's basketball program ... LSU earned a 24-15 victory.
• Before the Aggies joined the SEC for the 2012-13 campaign, the last meeting between the schools came on Dec. 20, 2008, when the Aggies defeated LSU, 72-61, at Houston's Toyota Center.
• A&M head coach & Louisiana native Billy Kennedy is 7-9 against LSU, having faced the Tigers once while at Centenary and once as the head coach at Southeastern Louisiana before coming to Texas A&M.
SEC Action
• The Aggies are in their seventh season as a member of the SEC. A&M is 71-61 all-time in league play.
• Five of the nine Aggies that saw the court in the team's league opener against Arkansas made their SEC debuts.
• On Jan. 12, 2019, A&M earned its first win in Tuscaloosa as a member of the SEC, following it up on Feb. 23, 2019 with the program's first win in Fayetteville since the 1986 season. Florida remains as the only place the Aggies have yet to earn a road win as a member of the SEC.
• Sophomore TJ Starks returns the most experience in SEC play, after he started the last ten games of conference play last season and was eventually named to the All-Freshman team. He was also named to the SEC Preseason Second Team by the league's coaches.
Flagg Named SEC Player of the Week
• Sophomore Savion Flagg earned his first SEC Player of the Week honor on Feb. 25 after a strong week of leading the Aggies to a pair of historical victories.
• Flagg started the week sparking a resilient effort by the Aggies to earn the first season sweep of Alabama in program history, leading the way with 18 points and nine rebounds. He followed it up with a 22-point, 9-rebound performance to give A&M it's first SEC win in Fayetteville.
Two For 20
• Two Aggies reached the 20-point mark in the same game for the sixth time this season as sophomore Savion Flagg led the way with 22 points and junior JUCO transfer Wendell Mitchell added 20 points at Arkansas.
• At South Carolina Flagg knocked down a career-high six threes in the battle with the Gamecocks, while Mitchell used a 16-point first half to help lead the way.
• Mitchell and sophomore Brandon Mahan added 23 and 20 points, respectively at Ole Miss.
• Mahan went 6-of-7 from beyond the arc to match his season best against the Rebels, while Mitchell put together a complete game to lead the Aggies for the sixth time this season.
• Against then-No. 14 Auburn, Flagg knocked down a career-high four threes to reach 20-plus points for the fourth time this season, while Mitchell went off for 16 of his 22 in the first half, and finished 9-of-10 from the free throw line against the Tigers.
• A&M started conference play seeing two Aggies score 20-plus points in the same game for the second time this season, as Flagg and classmate TJ Starks led the team in the opener.
• Flagg recorded his second double-double of the season, finishing with 20 points and 15 boards, while Starks matched his career high with 23 points, 17 coming in the second half.
• The first time two Aggies put up 20 points in the same game was when Mahan and graduate student Christian Mekowulu set season highs with 20 points apiece in the win over Valpo.
• Mahan knocked down four of his seven attempts from beyond the arc in the game, while Mekowulu went 8-for-9 from the field.
