BATON ROUGE – The No. 19 Texas A&M men's tennis team faces LSU (13-4, 1-3 SEC) and New Orleans (6-6) at the LSU Tennis Complex Saturday afternoon. The Aggies (12-3, 4-0 SEC) are set to take on the Tigers at noon followed by a 4 p.m. (CT) matchup against the Privateers.
"I think this will be another very tough road test in the SEC," Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. "LSU is much improved from last year and are playing with a lot more confidence. I know we have to put behind us what happened on Monday Night against Ohio State and really be prepared for a big fight tomorrow."
The Maroon & White return to action after winning their last nine matches, including a perfect 4-0 start to the SEC season and a triumph over No. 1 Ohio State. The Aggies have won 18 straight regular season SEC matches after topping Georgia and No. 25 Tennessee last week at the Mitchell Tennis Center. Against the top-ranked Buckeyes, the Aggies earned the first four singles matches to earn the team victory from wins by freshman Noah Schachter, junior Valentin Vacherot and sophomores Hady Habib and Barnaby Smith.
Texas A&M boasts four student-athletes in this week's Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Top 125 National Singles Rankings. Vacherot moved up nine spots to No. 38 this week to lead the charge for the Maroon & White. Joining Vacherot in the Top 125 are No. 58 Smith, No. 120 Habib and No. 121 Austin Abbrat.
Smith is an impressive 11-1 this spring having won 12 of his last 13 matches including the clincher against No. 1 Ohio State. Habib has won nine of his 11 matches since rejoining the team in January. Abbrat, a freshman from Spring, Texas, has won eight of his last 10 matches.
Following the trip to the Pelican State, the Aggies return to the Mitchell Tennis Center for a matchup against No. 21 Oklahoma at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19.
