COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 17 Texas A&M Aggies blanked the No. 7 Mississippi State Bulldogs, 1-0, behind a stellar pitching performance from sophomore Asa Lacy in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park to even the weekend series.
Lacy (7-3) tossed the first complete-game shutout by an Aggie since Kyle Simond's no-hitter against Vanderbilt in 2016. The southpaw fanned eight and scattered four walks and three hits over 7.0 innings to hold the Bulldogs scoreless for the first time since Feb. 22, the fifth game of the season.
The lone run came with two outs in the sixth as Zach DeLoach blasted a double down the right field line, allowing Braden Shewmake to score from first.
Texas A&M moved to 32-16-1 overall on the season and 12-10-1 in SEC play. Mississippi State fell to 37-10 on the year and 14-9 in league play.
