Director of Athletics Ross Bjork talks about student-athletes returning to campus on Tuesday, the first official day that Aggie players can access on-campus facilities. Click above to watch.
On the excitement of Tuesday being the first day student-athletes can use on-campus facilities...
"It seems like a long time ago that we shut down. But now here we are where we can welcome back our student-athletes, get them in for voluntary workouts, put them in a safe environment. We always believed that they were safer here, that we could really protect them to the best of our ability. We've tested our student-athletes. They've all been prepped and ready to go. Seeing our student-athletes, seeing that glean in their eye...they're here to compete. And this is a step in that process. We're very excited.
On the thoroughness of the return to campus plan and it serving as a model to other schools...
"We knew we couldn't shut down forever. So around May 1 we started operationalizing this plan and starting figuring out (things like) what happens with the air ducts in the weight room? What happens to testing? What happens to our staff? Do we wear masks when we're working out with our student-athletes? Those type of things. And I really believe that we have a best-in-class model for this whole return to activity. We've shared our plan with others around the country who've asked about it, and I really think our staff--led by Justin Moore, Kristen Brown, Dan Jacobi, JP Bramhall--they deserve credit for really putting the right kind of plan together. Because really all you can do, at the end of the day, is make it as safe as possible, and make sure that we have all the protections in the right amount of space."
