BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M women's golf head coach Gerrod Chadwell makes the first signing of his tenure in Aggieland, adding 2019 Big 12 Freshman of the Year and Women's Golf Coaches Association first team All-American Hailey Cooper on Saturday.
"Hailee is an incredible talent and I am thrilled to have her join us in Aggieland." Chadwell said. "I recruited Hailee heavily in her junior golf career, so now to have the opportunity to coach her for the next two years is a great honor that I didn't know I would be able to have. She will provide leadership and experience to our program immediately, having played on some of the biggest stages in our game. She is a great piece to help us establish the culture that we want for our program. I really look at this as a homecoming for her because of how well she fits into what we are trying to do."
Cooper comes to Aggieland after a three-year stint at Texas. While in Austin, the rising senior racked up WGCA and Golfweek All-America honors her freshman year (2018-19). The 2019 Big 12 Freshman of the Year won two tournaments during her freshman campaign and finished fourth individually at the 2019 NCAA Championship.
As a Longhorn, Cooper notched 16 top-20 finishes in 24 outings. The Aggie holds a 73.21 career stroke average, with 70 rounds of collegiate golf under her belt. The Montgomery, Texas, native came into college as the No. 9 recruit in the nation, and was ranked as high as No. 1.
In 2018, the All-American made the cut at the 2018 U.S. Women's Open, tying for 55th overall [72-76-77-74]. She also competed for Team USA at the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup and holds the third-lowest single-season stroke average (72.28 – 2018-19) in Longhorn history.
This is the first signing of the Chadwell era and Cooper will have two years of eligibility remaining in her collegiate career.
