SEC TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: vs. Alabama

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies continue play at the SEC Tournament on Friday with a game against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Texas A&M-Alabama matchup is slated for the third game of the day with the opener slated for 9:30 a.m.
ABOUT THE AGGIES
The Maroon & White own their highest seed ever at the tournament, earning the No. 2 spot after winning their first SEC Western Division title.
The Aggies are looking for their second SEC Tournament crown to put in the case with their 2016 trophy. Texas A&M owns six conference tournament crowns, including Big 12 titles in 2007, '10 and '11 and Southwest Conference crowns in 1986 and '88.
Texas A&M owns a 13-9 record all-time at the SEC Tournament. The Aggies' .591 winning percentage at the tournament trails only LSU (.664 – 89-45).
The Aggies have smashed 71 home runs during the 2022 campaign. It marks Texas A&M's highest dinger tally since hitting 85 during the 2009 season. The Aggies only hit the 70-tater mark once since 2009, hitting 70 in 2015.
Texas A&M is 13-4 since Trevor Werner returned to the starting lineup, including 12-4 against SEC competition. On the season, the Maroon & White are 17-5 with Werner in the starting lineup and 19-12 in games he did not start.
The Aggies have a history of pitching well at the SEC Tournament and it has showed up recently. Texas A&M has yielded a combined six hits in their last three SEC Tournament games. In addition to Thursday's one-hitter against Florida, Ol' Sarge's staff pitched a three-hitter and two-hitter in losses that eliminated Texas A&M from the 2019 tournament.
Since April 5, the Aggies are 20-6, including 15-6 in SEC action. Prior to that date, the Maroon & White were 16-11 with a 4-5 league ledger. Austin Bost has keyed the run, batting .438, while Dylan Rock owns a .515 on-base percentage with nine home runs and 28 RBI. Ryan Targac has a .352 batting average, nine home runs and 35 RBI in the span.
SERIES NOTABLES
Texas A&M and Alabama have met 30 times with the Aggies holding the series lead, 18-12. The programs first met in 1995 with a 6-2 win by Texas A&M. The teams took an eight-year hiatus before meeting in 2003, followed by another 10 year dormant stage until the Aggies joined the SEC in 2013. Texas A&M owns a 15-12 edge in the series since they became league brethren.
In 2022, the Aggies lost two of three against the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa. Texas A&M won the opener 3-2 behind a strong pitching performance by Nathan Dettmer. The Crimson Tide bounced back to win game two, 10-9, and claimed the finale, 8-4.
