Apr 22, 2023 | Track and Field
BATON ROUGE, La. – The men's and women's 4x400m teams claimed victories as the Texas A&M men's and women's track & field competed at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet at Bernie Moore Track Stadium on Saturday.
The women got the relay party started, taking the win in 3:28.42. Kennedy Wade ran the first leg, clocking 51.95 before handing off to Sanu Jallow, who handed to Tierra Robinson-Jones after a 53.83 split. Robinson-Jones ran 51.23 before Jermaisha Arnold's anchor leg brought the team home in 51.41, claiming the victory over runner-up Harvard by more than six-seconds.
Ashton Schwartzman shot out of the blocks for the Aggie men, handing off to Omajuwa Etiwe after 44.56 seconds. Etiwe split 47.94 before passing the baton to Auhmad Robinson, who made up ground on LSU, taking the lead in the home straight before handing the stick to DeMarco Escobar on anchor. Escobar held on to the lead with a split of 46.04, bringing the team's final time to 3:03.18. The time is a season best for the Aggies, topping their time of 3:03.30 from the Mt. SAC Relays.
Heather Abadie topped her own school record in the pole vault, clearing 14-2.75/4.34m to claim the victory. Breaking the school record for the fourth time this season, Abadie entered the season with an outdoor personal best of 13-9.25/4.20m and has topped the mark in four of six meets this season.
Lamara Distin won the high jump with a clearance over 6-4.75/1.95m, topping her season best of 6-4/1.93m from Mt. SAC. The mark is a national lead and is only two centimeters off her personal best of 6-5.5/1.97m from last April. Distin made three attempts at 6-6.75/2.00m, missing them all. Her first attempt at the would-be collegiate record looked good until her heal clipped the bar, causing it to fall.
In the men's shot put, Bryce Foster claimed second-place with a toss of 63-0.25/19.21m. The throw is a season best and the second-furthest throw of his collegiate career. After having knee surgery done in the fall, Foster has topped the 60-foot mark in every competition this season, finishing in the top three places at five of the six meets this year.
Running his first 800m since last April, Cooper Cawthra earned a third-place finish with a clocking of 1:49.82. The time smashes his previous personal best of 1:52.25.
Camryn Dickson set a big personal best in the 200m, clocking 22.86 (w/-0.5) into a headwind to finish as the top collegian. The mark makes her the No. 11 performer in Texas A&M history and ranks as the No. 5 freshman mark in the NCAA. Dickson has set or equaled her personal best time in every 200m race this season.
In the men's short hurdles, Bryce McCray finished as the top collegian, running his second-best time ever at 50.29, just off his personal best 0f 50.21. McCray's mark is the No. 9 time in the SEC.
Connor Schulman won the 110m hurdles, crossing the finish line in a wind-aided time of 13.59 (w/2.2). Schulman's mark equals his third-best all-conditions time ever. He has run sub 13.60 on four out of five outings this season.
