PHILADELPHIA – The Texas A&M track & field team downed a school record and secured four event titles on the final day of the Penn Relays, Saturday at Franklin Field.
Rounding out the victory filled weekend in Philadelphia, the Aggies collected three Penn Relay wheels which increased their all-time total to 38, while tacking on two individual event titles and breaking the men's 4x800m school record.
Kickstarting the momentum for the Maroon & White was the women's 4x100m relay team, as the quartet of Anya Jackson, Camryn Dickson, Aysha Shaheed and Jasmine Montgomery crossed the line in 43.88 to secure the groups second Penn Relays wheel of the weekend. The triumph also marked back-to-back wins in the event and secured the 10th victory all-time in the 4x100m which ranks second in the meets record book. The men recorded a fourth-place result, as Matthew Maldima, David Foster, Blake Holland and Keanu Jones finished in 40.56.
The men's 4x800m relay team consisting of Stefon Dodoo, Peter Narumbe, Grant Ashby and Reece Sharman-Newell clocked in a time of 7:11.64 to down the school record previously set at the 2024 Penn Relays (7:13.98). The group crossed the line third overall in a strong field.
Adding to the relay titles was the women's 4x400m team of Lacarthea Cooper, Dickson, Montgomery and Jahnile Registre. They crossed the line in 3:32.31 to claim the final Penn Relay wheel of the weekend. The win takes the programs total to three in the event and lands them in a tie for third all-time at the meet. On the men's side, Iliya Dryaba, Eric Hemphill III, DeMarco Escobar and Kimar Farquharson came up just short as they finished second in 3:05.86 and were 0.01 off first place.
The success continued in the individual events as Jaiya Covington and Ja'Qualon Scott swept the short hurdle titles. Covington captured her first 100m hurdles Penn Relays crown with a mark of 13.09, while Scott made it back-to-back wins with a time of 13.87 and became one of just four men in history to claim two-straight titles in the event.
At the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, the group logged two top eight finishes. Jasiah Rivera in the men's 110m hurdles finished third with a wind aided mark of 13.70, while Jaise Lee-Alridge in the 400m ran 46.67 to take seventh.
