Aggie battle Georgia to open tournament.
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Texas A&M soccer team opens SEC Tournament action with Sunday's 11:30 a.m. first round match against the Georgia Bulldogs at Ashton Brosnaham Park.
In their 13th season in the league, Texas A&M is searching for their fourth SEC Tournament crown. Only Florida (13) and Tennessee (5) boast more SEC Tournament titles than the Maroon & White. At 15-8, the Aggies own the second-best winning percentage (.652) at the tournament, trailing only Florida (.783).
Texas A&M owns a 7-3-0 edge in the all-time series against Georgia with all the meetings coming since the Aggies joined the SEC for the 2012 campaign. Eight of the 10 matches have been decided by one goal.
The Bulldogs have won the last two contests, including a 3-2 SEC Tournament semifinal win in an epic double overtime thriller. With the match appearing to head toward a PK shootout, Georgia's Croix Bethune scored the winner with 27 seconds remaining in the second overtime period.
This is the third time the teams are meeting in the SEC Tournament. In 2014, Bianca Brinson, Annie Kunz and Meghan Streight scored for Texas A&M in a 3-0 quarterfinal victory en route to a tournament title.
The Aggies have a tradition of success at conference tournaments with an overall mark of 38-18-14. The Maroon & White boast eight conference tournament crowns, including SEC titles in 2013, '14 and '17.
Texas A&M posted a 23-10-4 (.676) record at the Big XII Championship and won titles in five of the tournament's first 16 years. The Aggies won Big XII crowns in 1997, 2001, '04, '05 and '11.
The Aggies own a 10-3-0 edge in the all-time series with all the meetings coming since Texas A&M joined the SEC prior to the 2012 season. Ol' Sarge's charges won the first nine matches, outscoring the Bulldogs 29-3, including six shutouts. Mississippi State went on a three-match win streak in 2021-22. Last season, Sammy Smith netted a late penalty kick as the Aggies won in Starkville, 1-0. Seven of the last nine matches have been decided by one goal.
