No. 12 Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 14 Arizona, 4-1, at ITA Indoors
Feb 18, 2024 | Men's Tennis
NEW YORK – The No. 12 Texas A&M men's tennis team fell to the No. 14 Arizona Wildcats, 4-1, on Sunday in the consolation round of the 2024 ITA National Indoor Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
"I thought we were pretty good when things went our way," head coach Steve Denton said. "Our guys lost their composure today when we faced adversity. We were too emotional and that really cost us in the end. We will need to learn from this and become a tougher minded team from top to bottom in our line up."
Luke Casper/JC Roddick lost to Herman Hoeyeraal/Eric Padgham on court 2, 3-6, to begin doubles action. However, the Texas A&M (7-2) evened the score with a dominant win from Giulio Perego/Togan Tokac who defeated No. 6 Jay Friend/Colton Smith on court 1, 6-3. Raphael Perot/Tiago Pires clinched the doubles point for the Maroon & White on court 3 to secure the victory with a thriller over No. 53 Sasha Rozin/Gustaf Storm, 7-6(4).
Arizona (7-2) responded in singles, with three straight wins to reclaim and build the lead to 3-1. A&M was in the third set in one match and looking to push two more matches to a third set when the Wildcats clinched and took the final point.
The Aggies return to the court when they host Pepperdine Sunday, Feb. 25 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
