
No. 12 Men’s Tennis Secures Doubleheader Sweep

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 12 Texas A&M men's tennis team picked up a pair of victories, defeating Pepperdine, 4-3, and A&M-Corpus Christi, 6-1, Sunday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
Pepperdine (2-6) claimed court 3 to begin doubles play, however the Maroon & White (9-2) tied it up with a victory from Giulio Perego/Togan Tokac who took down Maxi Homberg/Christopher Papa on court 1, 6-4. Luke Casper/Kenner Taylor clinched the doubles point for the Aggies on court 2 with a win over George Davis/Linus Halldin, 7-5.
No. 86 Perego went to work on court 3, winning in straight sets against Papa (6-4, 6-2) to extend the lead for A&M. Pepperdine got on the scoreboard with a win on court 6. No. 69 Perot earned an upset victory over No. 34 Winter on court 1 (6-4, 6-2). The Waves responded with back-to-back wins and tied it up before No. 87 Tokac clinched the match for the Maroon & White in a three-set thriller on court 2 against Pietro Fellin (6-1, 3-6, 7-6(3)).
The Aggies continued that momentum in their second match against A&M-Corpus Christi (8-3). Grant Lothringer/Taylor dominated Matthieu Coignet/Antoine Vicaire on court 2, 6-2. Clinching the doubles point for the Maroon & White were Perot/Pires who did quick work on Etienne Marty/Avery Zavala on court 1, 6-1. Ethan Silva/Lathan Skrobarcek were up 4-3 before A&M won the doubles point.
Pires continued that spark for the Aggies winning in straight sets on court 2 against Marty (6-0, 6-1). Silva extended the lead for the Maroon & White with a victory on court 6 over Nicolas Trebuchet (6-4, 6-1). Clinching the match for the Aggies was Perego who beat Zavala on court 1 (7-5, 6-3).
The teams played out the remaining matches after the Maroon & White clinched with freshman Skrobarcek securing a victory over Iannis Fernandes on court 4 (7-6(2), 6-4). On court 3, Lothringer added the last win for the Aggies and took down Lucas Schurdevin (7-6(2), 6-2).
Texas A&M returns to action, traveling to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators, Friday, March 1, to start SEC play.
