MEET PREVIEW: Carolina Spring Break Classic
Mar 13, 2024 | Track and Field
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The Texas A&M track & field program opens its 2024 outdoor season at the Carolina Spring Break Classic this week at the Pista Atletica Basilio Rodriguez.
The Aggies just wrapped up a successful indoor campaign which saw the men's squad finish the season ranked sixth in the country and the women 14th. Throughout indoors, the team garnered 11 first-team and six second-team All-America honors, 12 medals at the SEC Championships and broke five school records.
"This group did a really good job during the indoor season," head coach Pat Henry said. "I saw the team come together at the conference meet and then take another step at the NCAA Championships, finishing on a high note."
Switching their focus, the Maroon & White head outdoors for the second half of the track & field season. Last year, the Texas A&M women secured a top-five finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, while the men placed 22nd. The team returns 20 athletes who received All-American honors at the outdoor championships last season, as the Aggies look to kick the second half of their campaign off strong in Puerto Rico.
"This is going to be a good meet to start our outdoor season," Henry added. "It's a great opportunity for a lot of our athletes to get back to competition. It should be a good opening meet for us against some solid competition."
The Carolina Spring Break Classic will see over 50 Aggies in action competing across 34 events. The meet kicks off Thursday, as the A&M pole vault group hit the field on the opening day at the Ana Mendez Stadium. The meet continues Friday and Saturday with a mixture of both track and field events held at the Pista Atletica Basilio Rodriguez.
