No. 10 Men’s Tennis Dominates Vanderbilt
Mar 29, 2024 | Men's Tennis
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 10 Texas A&M men's tennis team dominated the Vanderbilt Commodores, 6-1, Friday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
"Tough conditions today," head coach Steve Denton said. "We were able to secure the doubles point which I thought kept us in the lead early in the match. The team relaxed a little from there and just played tennis, winning the first sets. Vanderbilt did a good job pushing back in the second sets of some of the matches and made it tough on us. Proud of the way we responded there to close out the match. We have a quick turnaround in getting ready at LSU on Sunday. Always tough on the road, so we will need to be ready to compete at a high level if we expect to continue our success."
JC Roddick/Lathan Skrobarcek in their first match together this season took down Hugo Coquelin/Danil Panarin on court 3, 6-3. Tiago Pires/Kenner Taylor would fall to Jeremie Casabon/Nathan Cox on court 2, 6-4. However, No. 28 Giulio Perego/Togan Tokac clinched the doubles point for the Aggies (17-5, 6-2 SEC) in a thriller over No. 54 Joubert Klopper/Michael Ross on court 1, 7-6 (7-5), that ended with a Tokac ace.
Tokac went to work on court 3 in singles, winning in straight sets against Cox (6-2, 6-0) to extend the lead for A&M. Casper continued that momentum and beat Coquelin on court 6 (7-5, 6-1). Clinching the match for the Aggies was No. 24 Roddick who defeated Klopper on court 2 (6-2, 6-4).
The teams played out the remaining matches after the Maroon & White clinched. Perego secured another point with a victory over Ross on court 4 (7-6 (7-5), 6-4). On court 1, No. 33 Perot added the last win of the day for the Aggies taking down No. 85 Panarin on court 1 (6-1, 7-6 (7-0).
