BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Ryan Prager tossed a complete game shutout and Braden Montgomery and Jace LaViolette each homered twice as the No. 3 Texas A&M baseball team run-ruled No. 6 Vanderbilt, 15-0, in seven innings in front of a season-best crowd of 7,351 Friday night from Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park. The victory marked win No. 30 for the Aggies (30-4, 9-4) and their 10th in the last 11 contests.
Prager was brilliant for the Maroon & White as the redshirt sophomore struck out 10 Commodores (26-8, 8-5) over seven scoreless frames to record the first complete game shutout by an Aggie since Asa Lacy in 2019. The lefty gave up only four hits on the night and did not allow a walk. The outing marked the fifth time this season and second straight that Prager has not yielded a walk.
LaViolette led the offensive attack for Texas A&M as the sophomore went 2-for-3 with two homers and a career-high tying six RBI. The multi-homer contest was the left-handed slugger's fifth of the year and ninth of his career. Montgomery followed with his third multi-homer game as an Aggie, finishing 2-for-4 with four RBI.
As a team, eight of the nine batters in the lineup logged a multi-hit night and scored a run. The Maroon & White's 17 hits matched a season-high and were their most in an SEC game since 2022. The Aggies' five homers were also tied for their most in a game this year.
The Maroon & White set the tone in the opening frame with a pair of home runs en route to jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Following a 10-pitch leadoff walk from Gavin Grahovac, LaViolette launched his 15th homer of the year over the wall in center. The junior's two-run blast traveled 428 feet and left the bat at 107 mph.
Montgomery followed with his 18th homer of the year that sailed over Section 12 in right center. The junior's solo shot traveled 405 feet and had an exit velocity of 106 mph.
Montgomery struck again in the second with a three-run homer that traveled 426 feet and doubled the Maroon & White lead.
After LaViolette added a run in the fourth on a sac fly, Ted Burton stretched the advantage to 9-0 in the fifth with a two-run homer over the wall in right. The long ball marked the senior's first since March 10 against Rhode Island and fourth of the year.
Later in the frame, Travis Chestnut added to the lead with a sac fly before LaViolette lifted a three-run homer to left to make it 13-0 Aggies.
An RBI groundout from Hayden Schott and an RBI single from Caden Sorrell in the sixth capped the scoring for the Maroon & White as they went on to win 15-0.
