Davidson, Whitmarsh Shine on Opening Day of Tom Jones Memorial

GAINESVILLE – Texas A&M's Lianna Davidson claimed her fourth javelin title of the season, while Sam Whitmarsh climbed the Aggie all-time ranks in the 1500m on the opening day of the Tom Jones Memorial Friday at James G. Pressly Stadium.
Davidson continued to show her dominance in the women's javelin, as she won her fourth event of the season with a throw of 57.26m/187-10. This mark was her second highest of the year, as the junior remains ranked No. 2 in the nation. McKenzie Fairchild also put out a good display, tossing 48.93m/160-6 for sixth place.
Whitmarsh shocked the nation once again following his debut on the Bowerman Watchlist. He finished third overall and first among collegians in the 1500m, crossing the line in 3:40.74 which was good for No. 2 on the A&M all-time list and seventh in the country this year.
Continuing performances in the field was Sam Hankins on the men's side of the javelin. He logged a throw of 75.05m/246-2 to finish fourth, while John Baker opened his outdoor season also finishing fourth in the long jump with a leap of 7.36m/24-1.75.
Connor Gregston logged his first event win of the season in the open pole vault, as he cleared 5.13m/16-10. In the invitational section of the event, Jack Mann III finished 10th with a mark of 5.15m/16-10.75.
