Apr 15, 2024 | Softball
TUSCALOOSA – The No. 12 Texas A&M softball team deflated No. 13 Alabama scoring five runs in the sixth to win the series, 9-4, Monday night at Rhoads Stadium.
Knotted at four after five innings, Texas A&M (33-9, 12-6 SEC) silenced the crowd of 3,692 with five runs on four hits and two errors to move into the driver's seat heading to the final frame. Alabama (30-10, 7-8 SEC) reached on a fielding error before a ground ball was hit towards Amari Harper as a collision ensued. Following a review, it was ruled a double play due to malicious contact which followed with a pop up to end the night.
It marked the first SEC series win at Alabama and the second SEC series victory against the Crimson Tide in program history. The 26 combined runs in the two wins marks the most in back-to-back SEC games in program history.
The Fightin' Texas Aggies struck first with a pair of runs in the fourth inning, before the Crimson Tide answered with three runs in the bottom half. Ol' Sarge's charges punched back stringing together back-to-back hits with a double and an RBI-single, followed by an RBI ground out to regain the lead, 4-3, before heading to the bottom of the fifth. An Alabama lead off triple, followed by a wild pitch evened the score at four.
Emiley Kennedy (17-7) earned the win tossing 6.0 innings and striking out six, while yielding one run on three hits. The junior started the game pitching 3.0 scoreless innings, before re-entering in the fifth to regain the lead and slamming the door shut.
