No. 12 Texas A&M Wins Ole Miss Series Opener, 5-2

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 12 Texas A&M softball team pressured Ole Miss into multiple miscues leading to an SEC series opening win, 5-2, Friday night at Davis Diamond.
Texas A&M (35-9, 13-6 SEC) and Ole Miss (25-20, 3-13 SEC) battled through three scoreless innings, including Aggie starter Emiley Kennedy striking out five. The Aggies broke the ice in the bottom of the fourth with a lead off single, followed by a walk, groundout and a passed ball that gifted the Maroon & White a 2-0 lead. The Rebels answered the following top half with a two-run home run.
The Aggies took advantage of Ole Miss miscues scoring two runs on one hit and two errors to regain the lead, 4-2. The Maroon & White added an insurance run the following inning as Rylen Wiggins led off with a single, before advancing to second on a passed ball. The senior then stole third, before advancing home on a throwing error from the catcher.
Texas A&M moved to 5-2 in SEC series openers this season, while the 13 wins in league play matches the 2018 season as the second most regular season SEC wins in program history.
Kennedy moved to 18-7 on the season and tossed her 18th complete game of the season. The left-handed hurler struck out seven batters, adding to her SEC total 69 strikeouts which is second most by an Aggie pitcher in a season behind Mel Dumezich's 78 strikeouts in 2013.
