Taylor Named Brad Davis SEC Community Service Leader of the Year
May 14, 2024 | Men's Tennis
BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M's Kenner Taylor was named the 2023-24 Brad Davis SEC Community Service Leader of the Year alongside Alabama's Sydney Orefice, league Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Tuesday.
Taylor was chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from SEC universities. Each will receive a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship, provided by the SEC.
"I'm honored to receive this award and am grateful for my friends, family and teammates who have been there for me every step of the way," Taylor said. "Getting to carry the torch that Brad Davis lit during his life is an opportunity I will always cherish. Mr. Davis taught so well the importance of pouring into others and to leaving them better than we found them, something reflected in the core value of selfless service so many Aggies before have demonstrated."
The Houston native is the third Aggie to earn the honor, joining Wade Karam (2016) and Ann Elizabeth Tebow (2020) as A&M selections. The SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship is named for former Associate Commissioner Brad Davis. Davis succumbed to cancer on March 2, 2006. He had been a member of the SEC staff since 1988, first serving as an assistant commissioner until 1994 when he was promoted to associate commissioner.
"Sydney and Kenner have made a commitment to making their world a better place with a dedication to service in their communities," Sankey said. "Sydney and Kenner reflect a passion for a well-rounded college experience that is typical of student-athletes across the SEC and they represent all that can be achieved by the young people in our Conference. I congratulate them, their families and the universities they represent on this prestigious recognition."
