May 18, 2024 | Softball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The national No. 16 seed Texas A&M softball team advanced to Sunday's Bryan-College Station regional final after Aggie ace Emiley Kennedy shutout Texas State, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at Davis Diamond.
Kennedy (22-10) struck out six batters and tossed her ninth shutout and 22nd complete game of the season. After yielding three hits in the first two innings, the left-handed pitcher sat down 12 consecutive batters before Texas State (46-14) recorded its fourth hit of the game in the sixth.
The Texas A&M (42-13) defense backed Kennedy with multiple web gems beginning in the opening frame as Kramer Eschete nailed a runner down at third base from the left field warning track to end an early Bobcat attack. Texas State (46-14) threatened in the second inning with a leadoff single, before Rylen Wiggins made back-to-back calls to Sportscenter with a 4-6-3 double play and a line drive snag climbing the ladder to end the inning.
Koko Wooley mustered Texas A&M's only two hits of the game with singles in the first and third inning. The Maroon & White threatened in the third with a two-out single, walk and throwing error to load the bases before Texas State spoiled the attack.
