Aggies Comeback Falls Short in Extra Innings at No. 9 Florida, 9-8

GAINESVILLE – The No. 8 Texas A&M softball team fell in the eighth inning to No. 9 Florida, 9-8, Saturday afternoon at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
Texas A&M (39-11, 15-8 SEC) erased a six-run deficit to force extra innings, before the Gators ended the comeback with a one-out bases-loaded single to hand the Aggies their eighth one-run loss of the season.
Trailing 8-2 after the second inning, Trinity Cannon blasted a solo home run in the third before Koko Wooley slapped an infield single as chaos ensued by two throwing errors in the sequence as the bases cleared to make it 8-6 in the fifth.
With one out in the seventh, Wooley delivered driving in the game tying run with a two-RBI single up the middle scoring Jazmine Hill and Scout Lovell. The Aggies led off the eighth with back-to-back singles courtesy of Kramer Eschete and Kennedy Powell. Florida responded with a strikeout, followed by Scout Lovell advancing the pair of runners 60 feet, before a foul out ended the threat.
Florida (42-12, 16-7 SEC) scored three runs on four hits in the opening frame, before Rylen Wiggins hit her 25th career home run to make it 3-2 after an inning and half of play. The Gators scored five runs on five hits, including a grand slam in the bottom half.
Emiley Kennedy (20-9) suffered the loss after coming in relief pitching 1.1 innings and striking out three, while yielding one run and five hits. Emily Leavitt provided 5.0 innings of relief striking out five batters, while allowing one run on three hits.
