INDIANAPOLIS – Former Texas A&M swimmer Shaine Casas qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics with a second-place finish in the 200m IM Friday night during U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Competing in his first final at Olympic Trials, Casas went 1:55.83 in the evening session to secure his spot on the team. The McAllen, Texas native advanced to the final after clocking the second-fastest time in the semifinal, going 1:57.87 Thursday night.
Casas becomes the 12th Olympian all-time on the men's side for the Aggies and the first men's swimmer or diver to represent Team USA at the Olympics. He is also the first Aggie to represent the Red, White and Blue since Cammile Adams competed at the 2016 Rio Games after she and Breeja Larson were in action at the 2012 London Games.
During his time at Texas A&M, Casas tallied a program-best 20 All-America honors. He still holds school records in five individual events and was a member of three school record relay teams. He was named the 2021 CSCAA Men's Swimmer of the Year after claiming individual NCAA titles in the 100-yard back, 200-yard back and 200-yard IM.
