Aug 29, 2024 | Women's Golf
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The Texas A&M women's golf team begins its 2024-25 campaign at the historic Pebble Beach Golf Links at the Carmel Cup Aug. 30-Sept. 1 and are led by fourth-year head coach Gerrod Chadwell and 2024 NCAA Individual Champion Adela Cernousek.
Chadwell has transformed the Aggie women's golf program since his appointment prior to the 2021-22 season. He has led the team to three straight match-play appearances at NCAAs and guided the Maroon & White to the 2023 SEC Championship. During his time at the helm, Texas A&M has posted a 79.1% winning percentage in stroke play, increasing the percentage every year under his leadership.
The Lineup
Cernousek headlines the lineup after becoming the first golfer in Texas A&M history to win an individual national title last season when she fired a 12-under 276 at NCAAs to claim the crown by three strokes. The All-American was also the first Aggie to break the 70.00 stroke average mark for a season after shooting 69.94 for the year during her national championship season. The senior is ranked No. 8 on the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio is the No. 29 ranked player on the WAGR and was an All-SEC Second Team selection in her freshman campaign last year. Rounding out the lineup are A&M veterans Mia Nixon and Lauren Nguyen as well as Vanessa Borovilos and Kynadie Adams who are making their collegiate and Texas A&M debuts, respectively.
The Format
The Carmel Cup is a six-player lineup tournament with the five best scores from each team counting at the end of the round. Texas A&M will start off with 18 holes on Friday with the first tee time at 9:40 a.m. Live stats for the tournament can be followed at scoreboard.clippd.com.
The Field
The Aggies compete against fellow SEC opponents in Arkansas, Mississippi State, Oklahoma and Vanderbilt as well as TCU, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State.
