Stoiana Qualifies for NCAA Championships

CARY, N.C. – No. 1 Mary Stoiana secured a spot in the NCAA Individual Championships after advancing to the consolation finals at the ITA-All American Championships.
Stoiana took down Michigan's No. 12 Julia Fliegner in the consolation semifinal Sunday morning, 6-3, 6-2. The senior tallied five ranked wins on her way to the final, three of those against top 15 opponents. On Saturday, Stoiana toppled South Carolina's No. 10 Sarah Hamner (6-1, 6-3) to advance to the consolation quarterfinals, where she downed No. 14 Amelia Honer of UC Santa Barbara (1-6, 6-1, 7-5) to clinch a semifinals appearance.
Last season, Stoiana advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Individual Championships in singles and the doubles quarterfinals with her partner Mia Kupres, earning herself All-America honors in both.
The Aggies will have the opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships in the upcoming ITA tournaments, which include the ITA Regional Championships (Oct. 10-14), the ITA Conference Masters (Nov. 7-10) and the ITA Sectional Championships (Nov. 7-10).
ITA Regional Championships
There are 13 ITA Regions. Two singles finalists from each region will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship, while the doubles champion from each region will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship.
ITA Conference Masters
Each NCAA AQ-Eligible Division I conference will designate one singles player and one doubles team to compete in the ITA Conference Masters. Four players will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship and three doubles teams will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship.
ITA Sectional Championships
ITA member institutions will be assigned to one of four ITA sections. Players who have yet to earn entry into the NCAA Championships but have made deep runs in the ITA All-American or ITA Regional Championships will be eligible to participate. Six singles players and three doubles teams from each section will qualify for the NCAA Championships.
