No. 23/21 Aggies Drop Dual Meet to No. 4/4 Florida

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 23/21 Texas A&M swimming & diving program fell short in a dual meet for the first time this season against the No. 4/4 ranked Florida Gators. The final score of the men's meet was 193-107, and the women's final score was 179-120.
Both men's and women's 200 medley relay squads placed second in their respective events. The women's team of Kaitlyn Owens, Bobbi Kennett, Olivia Theall and Chloe Stepanek clocked a time of 1:40.68, and the men's team of Thomas Shomper, Travis Gulledge, Connor Foote and Ben Scholl recorded a 1:27.25.
Baylor Nelson touched the wall first in the 200 free, posting a season-best time of 1:36.51. In the women's heat, Stepanek placed third at 1:48.90.
Owens claimed the fastest time in the 100 back with a 54.65, and Aviv Barzelay followed closely with a 55.01. Barzelay added a first-place finish in the 200 back, clocking a 1:56.79. Shomper finished second in the men's 100 back with a time of 48.27 and later placed third in the 200 back with a 1:45.18.
In the 200 fly, Roberto Bonilla Flores (1:50.06), Nelson (1:50.71) and Trey Dickey (1:51.08) filled three spots in the top five times. Theall won the women's 200 fly with a time of 1:58.88 and placed second in the 100 fly at 52.96.
Scholl (19.56) and Collin Fuchs (20.03) claimed second and third, respectively, in the men's 50 free, after Owens (23.25) and Kailey Kennedy (23.46) placed the same in the women's event.
The Aggies topped both 100 free events as Foote went 44.20 in the men's heat and Stepanek clocked a 50.18 in the women's heat. Foote later posted a 48.07 in the 100 fly, placing second.
Hayden Miller placed second in both distance events, going 9:58.86 in the 1000 free and 4:51.69 in the 500 free.
Giulia Goerigk (2:03.13) and Hannah O'Leary (2:03.37) contributed top-three finishes in the 200 IM. Nelson wrapped up individual competition with a 1:47.04 in the 200 IM to place second.
Freshman divers Bridget Foster (298.73) and Julie Moons (295.20) registered career-best scores on the 3-meter springboard to place in the top three. Sophomore Diana Soto also recorded a career-best with a score of 265.95. Allen Bottego recorded a season-best score of 411.30 on the 3-meter, topping the event. Leonardo Garcia placed third on the 3-meter with a score of 382.73.
In the 400 free relay, the women's team of Owens, Ella McQuinn, Theall and Stepanek placed second with a time of 3:21.34. The men's team also placed second, as the team of Foote, Scholl, Fuchs and Nelson clocked a 2:55.05.
