No. 17/19 Aggies Fall to No. 1/2 Longhorns in Austin

AUSTIN – The No. 17/19 Texas A&M swimming & diving program dropped its final dual meet of the regular season to the No. 1/ 2 Texas Longhorns. The final score on the men's side was 218.5-80.5 and the women fell 197-102.
Action opened with the women's 400 medley relay squad of Kaitlyn Owens, Bobbi Kennett, Olivia Theall and Chloe Stepanek clocking a 3:32.55, placing second.
Stepanek notched a time of 48.77 in the 100 free and added a win in the 200 free with a season-best time of 1:43.98. On the men's side, Baylor Nelson posted a season-best time of his own in the 200 free, going 1:34.35 and later recorded a 1:44.31 in the 200 IM.
In the 50 free, Ben Scholl won the event with a career-best time of 19.17, registering as the fifth-fastest time in school history.
Connor Foote added second-place points for the Aggies in the 100 free, logging a time of 42.56. The San Antonio native went on to clock a 46.37 in the 100 fly. Lane White (53.40) and Alex Sanchez (53.49) placed in the top-five of the 100 breast, and freshman Ella McQuinn swam a 1:01.44 in the women's event, placing third.
Owens claimed second in the 100 back with a time of 52.45 and Aviv Barzelay posted a time of 53.83 to place fourth. Barzelay would go on to win the 200 back with a season-best time of 1:54.88 and Lizzie Watson lowered her season-best to 1:57.83 to take third. Hayden Miller notched times of 9:41.92 in the 1000 free and 4:45.49 in the 500 to place second in both events.
Theall touched the wall first in the 100 fly with a time of 51.88, and Ellis Fox set a season-best time with a 54.13. Earlier in the meet, Theall (1:55.71) and Katie Walker (1:57.90) rounded out the top three in the 200 fly.
Hannah O'Leary led the way in the 200 breast with a season-best time of 2:12.67. In the men's event, Logan Brown recorded a 1:56.54 and Roberto Bonilla Flores dropped his season-best to 1:57.05 to land in the top five.
To conclude swimming action, the men's 200 free relay squad of Foote, Scholl, Nelson and Collin Fuchs placed second with a time of 1:17.54 and the women's team of Stepanek, Owens, McQuinn and Theall lowered their season-best to 1:29.03.
On the diving end, Allen Bottego won his third consecutive 3-meter competition with a final score of 405.98. Bottego (351.60), Rhett Hensley (346.73) and Leonardo Garcia (345.23) rounded out the top-five scores on the 1-meter. Else Praasterink (301.65) scored over 300 points on the 1-meter springboard for the first time this season, claiming third in the event.
