LOS ANGELES – The Texas A&M swimming & diving program opened the 2025-2026 campaign with a strong first day effort at the USC Invitational on Friday at the Trojans' Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
Scoring at the meet was based on head-to-head dual meets against each of the competing teams. On the men's side, the No. 23 Aggies trail No. 15 USC by four points, 95-91, and the No. 2 Indiana Hoosiers, 151-35. For the women, the No. 25 Aggies trail No. 9 Indiana, 134-52; No. 12 USC, 123-63; and No. 23 UCLA, 103-83.
Providing the top finish for the Aggie women was junior transfer Ava Whitaker, who placed second overall in the women's 100 butterfly with a time of 52.39 as she met the 2026 NCAA qualifying standard.
On the men's side, fifth-year senior Munzy Kabbara shined with a pair of second-place overall efforts. Kabbara touched the wall in 1:45.45 in the 200 IM and flirted with the NCAA qualifying standard of 3:46.19 in the 400 IM with a time of 3:46.75.
College Station native Kaitlyn Owens had a pair of top five efforts, placing third in the women's 100 back in 53.30 and fifth in the 50 free in 22.64. Also turning in two top five finishes was senior Giulia Goerigk in the 400 IM (4th, 4:13.24) and 500 free (5th, 4:50.39). As a non-scorer in the 200 IM, Goerigk also placed fifth in 2:00.71. Other Aggies with fifth-place performances were senior transfer Claire Gass in the 100 breast (1:01.40) and Hannah O'Leary in the 200 IM (2:01.19).
Junior transfer Jack Madoch turned in a sub-20:00 effort in the men's 50 free in his first race in the Maroon & White, placing fourth in 19.94. Other Aggies logging fourth-place efforts for the men were sophomore Chase Swearingen in the 100 fly (47.05), junior Logan Brown in the 100 breast (53.04) and Batuhan Filiz in the 500 free (4:22.86). Freshman Emilio Trevino took third place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 307.75 in his Texas A&M debut.
The Aggies opened the morning session with the women (Owens, Victoria Taylor, Whitaker, Ella McQuinn) placing fifth in the 400 medley relay in 3:36.62 and the men (John Simmons, Brown, Swearingen, Madoch) taking fourth in 3:10.50. In the afternoon session, the men's team (Madoch, Ben Sytsma, Simmons, Swearingen) placed third in the 200 free relay in 1:19.44, while the women (Owens, Eloise Williamson, McQuinn, Reagan Sherrard) took fifth in 1:30.55.
