Swimming & Diving Rolls Past Horned Frogs in Home Opener

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M swimming & diving teams rolled past the TCU Horned Frogs in the Aggies' home opener on Friday afternoon at the Student Recreation Natatorium.
The No. 25 Aggie women downed the Frogs, 221-74, while the No. 23 men's squad gigged the Frogs, 198-98. The Aggies grabbed victories in 28 of 32 possible events with both squads winning 14 of their 16 events, including all four relays. Texas A&M swept the top three spots in 10 races.
Leading the way for the women's team with multiple individual victories were sophomore Ella McQuinn, junior Halina Panczyszyn and junior Hannah O'Leary. McQuinn posted wins in the 100 free in 49.46 and 200 free in 1:48.48; Panczyszyn swept the 100 and 200 backstrokes in 53.01 and 1:57.00, respectively; and O'Leary won the 200 breaststroke in 2:11.36 and the 200 IM in 1:59.35.
Pacing the men's squad with multiple victories were junior Roberto Bonilla Flores, sophomore Ben Sytsma, freshman Bucky Gettys and freshman Emilio Trevino. Bonilla Flores swept the 100 and 200 breasts in 53.77 and 1:54.99, respectively; Sytsma won the 50 free in 20.06 and 100 free in 43.91; Gettys touched first in the 500 free in 4:24.44 and 1,000 free in 9:06.37; and Trevino swept the 1- and 3-meter dives with scores of 346.28 and 370.58, respectively.
Contributing solo victories for the women's team were graduate Claire Gass in the 100 breast (1:01.70), junior Katie Walker in the 200 fly (1:57.99), freshman Reagan Sherrard in the 50 free (23.10), sophomore Julie Moons in the 1-meter dive (296.40), freshman Eloise Williamson in the 100 fly (53.87) and sophomore Bridget Foster in the 3-meter dive (323.55).
Chipping in wins for the men's squad were junior Logan Brown (1:37.23), freshman Alejandro Michelena in the 200 fly (1:46.16), sophomore Chase Swearingen in the 100 fly (45.94) and Munzy Kabbara in the 200 IM (1:45.90).
The Aggies opened the meet with wins in the 200 medley relay with the women's foursome of fifth-year Kaitlyn Owens, Gass, Williamson and McQueen touching in 1:38.55 and the men's quartet of freshman John Simmons, senior Lane White, Swearingen and Sytsma was victorious in 1:26.35. The Maroon & White closed out the meet with victories in the 200 free relay with the women (Sherrard, freshman Celina Springer, sophomore Macy Lewis and Panczyszyn finishing in 1:33.62 and the men (Brown, Sytsma, junior Jack Madoch and Swearingen) touching in 1:18.81.
