
Swimming & Diving Shines on Day One Against Mustangs

DALLAS – The Texas A&M swimming & diving program had a strong showing Friday afternoon on day 1 of a dual meet with SMU at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center.
The men's team took a 97-67 advantage and the women's team earned a narrow 83-81 lead after day one. The Aggies secured victories in 9 of 16 possible events.
Leading the way for the women's team with victories were Rachel Love, Kaitlyn Owens and Giulia Goerigk. Love posted a win in the 1,000 freestyle in 10:04.82; Owens took first in the 100 backstroke in 53:27; and Goerigk touched first in the 200 yard IM in 2:01.91.
Pacing the men's squad with victories were Roberto Bonilla Flores, Bucky Gettys, Alejandro Michelena, Ben Sytsma, and Munzy Kabbara. Bonilla Flores touched first in the 100 breaststroke in 53.73; Gettys won the 1,000 free in 9:01.61; Michelena touched first in the 200 butterfly in 1:45.7; Sytsma took first in the 100 free in 43:87; and Kabbara won the 200 yard IM in 1:45.69
Other Aggies contributing top efforts for the women were Victoria Taylor, Katie Walker, and Hannah O'Leary. Taylor took second in the 100 breast in 1:02.25; Walker touched second in the 200 fly in 1:58.98; O'Leary finished second in the 200 yard IM in 2:01.95.
Chipping in second place wins for the men's squad were AJ Robinson and Logan Brown. Robinson touched second in the 200 fly in 1:47.18 and Brown took second in the 200 yard IM in 1:47.66
The Aggies opened the meet with second place finishes in the 400 medley relay with the women's foursome of Macy Lewis,Claire Gass, Eloise Williamson, and Reagan Sherrard touching in 3:41.26 and the men's quartet of John Simmons, Roberto Bonilla Flores, Chase Swearingen, and Ben Sytsma finishing in 3:10.93.
The Maroon & White closed out the meet with the men securing a victory in the 200 free relay (Ben Scholl, Jack Madoch, Swearingen, Sytsma) finishing in 1:18.48 and the women finishing second in the 200 free relay (Owens, Ella McQuinn, Sherrard, and Williamson) touching in 1:30.42.
The Aggie divers finished first in the women's 3-mtr with Gabrielle Filzen scoring a 283.50 and the men finished second with Emilio Trevino scoring a 343.73.
