Aggies Log Eight NCAA Qualifying Cuts on Day 2 of Texas Invitational

AUSTIN – The Texas A&M swimming team produced eight NCAA qualifying cuts and seven swims that entered the school's top 10 list on the second day of the Texas Invitational on Wednesday at the Jamail Texas Swim Center.
Providing the top finish for the Aggies was sophomore Chase Swearingen with a runner-up effort in the men's 100 butterfly in a lifetime best time of 45.30, which was well-under the NCAA qualifying standard of 46.11. The time moved Swearingen to No. 3 in the school record book, behind only Connor Foote and Shaine Casas.
Junior transfer Ava Whitaker logged an NCAA qualifying cut while placing seventh in the women's 100 fly in a lifetime-best 52.34, which put her at ninth in A&M's all-time top 10.
In the men's 400 IM, fifth-year senior Munzy Kabbara took sixth in a season-best and NCAA qualifying cut 3:42.59, while freshman A.J. Robinson won the "B" final with a NCAA cut of 3:43.55, which entered the school's top 10 at No. 9.
The Aggies shined in the 100 breaststroke with a pair of "A" final efforts. Sophomore Ella McQuinn broke the one-minute barrier for the first time while placing fourth with an NCAA cut 59.42. McQuinn debuts on the school list at No. 7, just ahead of former NCAA Champion and world record holder Alia Atkinson. On the men's side, junior Logan Brown placed eighth in the final with a time of 52.45 after throwing down a lifetime-best 52.01 in the prelims. His time in the morning session ranks No. 6 on the school list. Junior Will Heck posted a lifetime best of 52.51 while placing second in the "B" final and debuted on the school list at No. 9.
The Texas A&M men closed out the day with an impressive runner-up finish in the 200 free relay with the foursome of junior Ben Scholl, sophomore Ben Sytsma, Brown and Swearingen touching in an NCAA provisional cut of 1:16.59. The foursome posted splits of 19.14, 19.39, 19.00 and 19.06 as they matched the fifth-fastest time in school history.
On the women's side, the Aggie quartet of fifth-year senior Kaitlyn Owens, McQuinn, freshman Eloise Williamson and freshman Reagan Sherrard placed fifth with an NCAA provisional cut of 1:28.77.
The Aggies will continue on Thursday with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 6 p.m. Live results can be found on the Meet Mobile app.
