
Aggies Log Five Qualifying Cuts on Day 3 of Texas Invitational

AUSTIN – The Texas A&M swimming team produced five NCAA qualifying cuts and five swims that entered the school's top 10 list on the third day of Texas Invitational on Thursday at the Jamail Texas Swim Center.
Providing the top finish was sophomore Ben Sytsma with a third-place effort in the men's 50 free in 19:24, after posting a lifetime best and NCAA qualifying cut 19.22 in the morning prelims. The time moved Sytsma to No. 7 in the school record book. Right behind him was junior Ben Scholl in fifth place with a time of 19.27. In the morning session, Scholl dropped a season-best and NCAA cut 19.15.
Senior Kaitlyn Owens logged an NCAA qualifying cut while placing fourth in women's 100 back in a season-best 51.78. In the women's 200 breast, freshman Lillie Sczech took 10th in a lifetime-best and NCAA qualifying 2:09.25 as she debuted at ninth in A&M's all-time top 10.
Junior Logan Brown had a fifth place finish in the men's 200 breast in a lifetime best 1:52.11, which was well under the NCAA qualifying standard of 1:54.95. The time moved Brown to No. 5 in the school record book.
The Texas A&M women closed out the day with a seventh place finish in the 400 medley relay with the foursome of Owens, sophomore Ella McQuinn, junior Ava Whitaker, and freshman Reagan Sherrard touching in 3:35.10.
On the men's side, the Aggie quartet of freshman A.J. Robinson, junior Will Heck, freshman Alejandro Michelena, and Scholl placed ninth with a time of 3:10.13.
The Aggies will continue on Friday with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 6 p.m. Live results can be found on the Meet Mobile app.
