Aggies Compete in ITA Sectionals and H-E-B Invitational

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Six members of the Texas A&M women's tennis team compete in ITA Central Sectional Championship, held at the Mitchell Tennis Center, and the H-E-B Invitational at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Nov. 6-9.
At the ITA Sectional, No. 38 Mia Kupres/Daria Smetannikov fight for a spot in the NCAA Doubles Championship. Kupres already qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship with her win in the ITA Texas Regional Final. Violeta Martinez and No. 64 Smetannikov look to join her when they play the singles draw of the ITA Sectional.
Thursday's round of 16 doubles action starts at 9 a.m. with Kupres/Smetannikov squaring off against No. 57 Akari Matsuno/Rylie Hanford of Notre Dame. In singles round of 32 play, Martinez faces McKenna Schaefbauer of Illinois at 10:30 a.m. and Smetannikov competes against No. 107 Reese Miller of Michigan at 12 noon.
In the ITA Sectional, six singles players (semifinalists, two quarterfinal playoff winners) and three doubles teams (championship finalists and third place qualify for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships slated for Nov. 18-23 in Orlando.
Freshmen Anna Perelman and Tilde Stromquist, along with senior Avery Esquivel, fight in the H-E-B Invitational, going as the fall matches come to an end.
