Swimming & Diving Faces Arizona Wildcats in Road Dual

TUCSON – The Texas A&M swimming & diving team faces the Arizona Wildcats in a two-day dual meet on Friday and Saturday at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center on the University of Arizona campus. The meet begins at 4 p.m. CST on Friday and continues at 10:30 a.m. CST on Saturday. The men's team is currently ranked No. 25 and the women's team is No. 24.
The swim team is coming off of the Texas Invitational where 15 Aggies logged NCAA qualifying cut times, 9 on the men's side and 6 on the women's side.
On the men's side, junior Logan Brown led the way, earning three NCAA qualifying cut times in the 100 breast (52.01), 200 breast (1:54.11), and 200 IM (1:41.59). All three times moved Brown in the school record book for each event. Sophomore Ben Sytsma tallied two qualifying cut times in the 50 free (19.22) and 100 free (42.30). These times also moved Sytsma into the school record book. Senior Munzy Kabbara also logged two qualifying cut times in the 200 IM (1:44.04) and the 400 IM (3:42.59). Also providing qualifying cut times was freshman Bucky Gettys in the 1,650 free (15:05.24), junior Will Heck in the 100 breast (52.51), freshman Alejandro Michelena in the 200 fly (1:42.47), freshman AJ Robinson in the 400 IM (3:43.55), junior Ben Scholl in the 50 free (19.14), and sophomore Chase Swearingen in the 100 fly (45.30).
Leading the way for the women was junior Ava Whitaker and sophomore Ella McQuinn. Whitaker provided two qualifying cut times in the 100 fly (52.34) which also moved her in the school record book and the 200 fly (1:55.01). McQuinn finished with two qualifying cut times in the 100 free (48.54) and the 100 breast (59.42) which also moved her in the school record book. Also logging a qualifying cut time and a program record time was senior Kaitlyn Owens in the 100 back (51.78) and freshman Lillie Sczech in the 200 breast (2:09.25). Junior Halina Panczyszyn and junior Katie Walker also logged qualifying cut times in the 200 back (1:54.76) and 200 fly (1:57.03), respectively.
The Aggie divers also wrapped up the Texas Diving Invitational with four Aggies qualifying for NCAA Zones. Sophomore Gabby Filzen qualified on the platform with a score of 267.05. Sophomore Jaxon Bowshire and freshman Emilio Trevino also qualified on the platform with a score of 336.70 and 426.40, respectively. Sophomore Nathan Stone qualified on both springboards with a score of 307.25 on the 1-meter and 336.05 on the 3-meter.
